Corentium Pro is a continuous, calibratable, battery-powered radon monitor (3XAA), specifically designed for professional users to measure radon concentrations indoors, workplaces and private homes where relative humidity does not exceed 85%. It is easy to use, small, light and rugged, with a wide measuring range from 1 to 200,000 Bq/m³.

Corentium Pro measures and records radon concentrations at 1-hour integration intervals. In addition, it is equipped with temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure recorders, whose measurement data are also recorded at 1-hour intervals.

In the design of the Corentium Pro, special attention has been paid to make sure radon measurements are reliable and stable, while preventing any intentional manipulation of the radon monitor and measurement data by unauthorized persons.

Corentium Pro has no screen to prevent influencing radon levels in the monitor environment when readings are high. The status of the device is indicated directly by LED light signals of different colors, and by vibration.

Corentium Pro also does not have an on/off switch so that ongoing radon measurements cannot be interrupted by the careless or malicious behavior of unauthorized persons. The device constantly measures radon as soon as the batteries are inserted. Although pressing the button on the front of the monitor stops a measurement in progress, this action also initiates a new measurement at the same time. In this way, no measurement data is lost and no measurement times are lost. In addition, the button can be deactivated for defined periods via the computer software “CRA“.

The long life of the batteries allows continuous measurements for more than a year with only 3 AA alkaline batteries, and its large memory capacity, can store up to 5 years of measurement data.

Description

Corentium-Pro professional and calibratable radon gas monitor.

Other hardware protection features:

  • Very secure battery compartment, can only be opened with a small “Torx 6” Key.
  • Possibility of attaching the device to a fixed object by means of a “Kensington” lock so that the equipment cannot be removed from the predetermined measurement site.
  • A built-in accelerometer records every movement of the Corentium Pro, as well as hits or strong impacts to the device. With the “CRA” software, the user can see when these events occurred and evaluate whether or not the movements require a repeat radon measurement.
  • The measurements are not affected by moderate mechanical vibrations, as it is insensitive to the effect of microphones. It is also insensitive to electromagnetic interference from mobile phones or other transmitters.
  • Protection against any tampering with the measured data is ensured by the special file format (*.cor files) with which all measurement data is stored in the radon monitor’s memory. These files can only be accessed with the PC software “Corentium Report & Analysis” (“CRA” software), and their contents cannot be modified.

CRA Software Description:

The CRA software  allows the user to visualize and analyze all measurement data and export it as spreadsheet files (*.csv) or image files to computers and other applications. In addition, specific periods per day, such as working hours, can be selected for which radon measurement data are specifically taken into account and the respective average values are calculated separately and automatically. The measurement data for these selected periods is also exported in a separate column of the spreadsheet.

With  the CRA software  it is also possible to control and manage Corentium Pro and generate customizable radon reports. The CRA software  also automatically synchronizes the internal clock of the radon monitors with the computer time, informs the user about the basic parameters of the instrument and is used to make certain adjustments in the Corentium Pro, such as setting the delay and duration of the measurement, synchronizing the starts of the measurement with the full hours, and deactivating the menu button of the instrument during the scheduled measurement periods.

Communication between the Corentium Pro radon monitor and the computer is done via a USB connection.

Measuring principle:

The measurement principle  of the Corentium Pro radon  monitor is based on the detection of radon alpha particles and their decay products by open photodiodes. For this reason, the Corentium Pro has 4 photodiodes, each with an area of 100 mm², located in four separate diffusion chambers. To increase detection efficiency, radon decay products are deposited directly on the surface of photodiodes by electric fields.

The Corentium Pro is a radon spectroscopic monitor that produces a finely resolved energy spectrum, so that only signals from the alpha decays of Po-218 and Po-214 are selectively used to calculate radon concentration. However, it will discriminate the signals of cosmic rays (muons), Po-210 and isotopes of the thoron decay series.

For this reason, measurements with Corentium Pro radon monitors are not affected by the inevitable increase in contamination of the detection system with long-life Po-210 over the course of its operating time. Therefore, it is not necessary to correct the measurement results with respect to background signals from Po-210 contamination and cosmic rays during measurements at higher altitudes.

Based on the spectrometric measurement of alpha particles,  the CRA software  also offers the visualization and export of measurement data in “standard mode” and “fast mode”. In the standard mode, the decays of Rn-222, Po-218 and subsequent decays of Po-214 are used to calculate radon concentrations, while in the fast mode only the decays of Rn-222 and Po-218 are selected. By excluding the isotope Po-214, which occurs in the radon decay chain with a significant delay from the decay of Po-218, the fast mode provides a shorter response time to detect variations in radon concentration, but at the cost of lower measurement sensitivity.

According to the requirements of IEC 61577-2:2014, Corentium Pro radon monitors have a very low cross-interference with the thoron, less than 2%.

In August 2022, the Corentium Pro received approval from the Czech Metrological Institute.(ČMI):

  • Approval certificate type No.: 0111-CS-A015-22
  • Approval mark type: TCM 442/22 – 5879
